Program splash screen starts up and then closes (stand-alone) autocad 2013

Program splash screen starts up and then closes (stand-alone)

If your AutoCAD 2013 splash screen appears and then closes immediately without launching the program (stand-alone version), it typically indicates a crash or failure during startup. This is a common issue and may be caused by various factors, including outdated system files, missing .NET Framework components, corrupt AutoCAD settings, or incompatible drivers.

Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to fix the issue:

Applies to AutoCAD 2009, AutoCAD 2010, AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD 2012, AutoCAD 2013, AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD 2015, AutoCAD Architecture 2009, AutoCAD Architecture 2010, AutoCAD Architecture 2011, AutoCAD Architecture 2012, AutoCAD Architecture 2013, AutoCAD Architecture 2014, AutoCAD Architecture 2015, AutoCAD Civil 2009, ...

Issue:
When you restart the program after it becomes unresponsive and freezes your computer, the splash screen is displayed briefly and then closes down with no apparent error message.

Solution:
Troubleshoot the problem using the following process:
Verify that the Licensing service is running.
1.      Access the Windows Run box.
2.      Type Services.msc and press Enter.
3.      Search for FLEXnet Licensing Service or FLEXnet Licensing Service 64.
4.      Make sure the services are started and running.
(If they are disabled, they will prevent the program from starting.)
Inspect the contents of productname201xENUAdlm.log
1.      Find this file at one of the following locations:
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ADLM

Vista/Windows 7/8:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM
2.      The error will typically be:
Reason=Fatal error
ComputerName=COMPUTER
OS=5.1.2600.Service Pack 2
File=AdlmIntSATSLicense.cpp,Line=1150
AdlmIntError=38 [Error getting license usage and behavior]
or:
Reason=Fatal error
ComputerName=COMPUTER
OS=5.1.2600.Service Pack 3
File=AdlmIntSATSLicense.cpp,Line=347
VendorID=2 [ADLMACT]
VendorError=101 [The license cannot be accessed/loaded/opened]
These errors indicate that the ADLM trusted storage file was corrupted when the program crashed.
3.      Rename the following file by adding a .bak extension at the end of the filename:
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FLEXnet\adskflex_*_tsf.data

Vista/Windows 7/8:
C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_*_tsf.data

1. Check System Requirements

Ensure your system meets the minimum requirements for AutoCAD 2013. While AutoCAD 2013 is quite old, newer Windows versions (like Windows 10/11) may not support it officially.

Recommended:

  • Use Windows 7/8 (64-bit) if possible
  • Disable User Account Control (UAC) temporarily for testing

2. Run as Administrator

Right-click the AutoCAD shortcut or executable and select Run as Administrator. This resolves permission-related startup issues.

3. Update or Reinstall .NET Framework

AutoCAD 2013 relies on Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0/4.5.

Steps:

  • Download the latest compatible .NET Framework 4.0/4.5 from Microsoft
  • Reinstall it
  • Restart your computer

4. Reset AutoCAD User Settings

Corrupted user profiles or settings often cause startup crashes.

To reset:

  • Go to:
    Start Menu > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD 2013 > Reset Settings to Default
  • Confirm and restart AutoCAD

5. Check Licensing Issues

If the license check fails, the splash screen may close immediately.

Fix:

  • Open Windows Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)
  • End any of the following if running:
    • adlmint.dll
    • lmgrd.exe
    • adskflex.exe
  • Then try launching AutoCAD again

You can also delete or rename the licensing data folder:

C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet

⚠️ This will reset licensing data for all Autodesk products. Restart AutoCAD afterward and re-activate if required.

6. Disable Hardware Acceleration (if it’s GPU-related)

If AutoCAD is crashing due to incompatible graphics drivers, try launching AutoCAD in Software mode.

Steps:

  • Right-click the AutoCAD shortcut > Properties
  • In the Target field, add:
  • /nohardware

Example:

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\acad.exe" /nohardware

7. Install the Latest Service Packs

AutoCAD 2013 has several Service Packs (SP1, SP2) available from Autodesk’s site.

Steps:

  • Search for “AutoCAD 2013 Service Pack” online
  • Download and install the latest SP
  • Reboot and try running AutoCAD again

8. Compatibility Mode for Windows 10/11

If you're on Windows 10 or 11, AutoCAD 2013 may need compatibility settings.

Set Compatibility:

  • Right-click acad.exe > Properties
  • Go to the Compatibility tab
  • Check:
    • “Run this program in compatibility mode for” > Windows 7
    • “Run this program as an administrator”

9. Check for Corrupt Installation

If none of the above work, a reinstall may be required.

Reinstall Cleanly:

  1. Uninstall AutoCAD 2013 using Control Panel
  2. Remove leftover folders:
  3. C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013\
  4. C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\
  5. C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\
  6. Reboot your PC
  7. Reinstall AutoCAD 2013
  8. Install the latest Service Pack before first run

Final Tip:

AutoCAD 2013 is over a decade old and not officially supported on modern OS versions like Windows 10/11. Consider upgrading to a newer version of AutoCAD or using AutoCAD LT if you only need 2D drafting.
